Format and Structure

We will embark on a journey of exploration on smell interactions in a highly interactive and participatory way. Please be prepared for lively discussions and experiments.

[ PREPARATION ]
Please bring THREE things to the conference with you, which can represent the scents of your city, daily lives or memories. It can be anything, as long as the scents last till the day of the workshop held in Portugal.

[TENTATIVE SCHEDULE ]

A. Organizer Presentation (1 hour): We will give a brief introduction about the background of olfactory interaction and how scents used in Artificial Intelligence.

C. Coffee break (20 min)

D. Hands-on practice morning session (30 min): Participants are encouraged to use different scents, and integrate with the current technology into a new interactive experience. Besides, the participants can collect the smell in the conference venue or during their stay in Portugal. They are encouraged to bring the smell experience to the other conference attendants during the lunch break.

E. Lunch break (1 hour)

F. Hands-on practice afternoon session (1 hour): According to their first hands-on olfactory experience with the attendants during the lunch break, the participants modify their ideation of the morning session, then turn the ideas into prototype, and work on different scents with technology by using Arduino, openFramework or other preferred technology.

G. Presentation (30 min): The participants will present their prototype and application behind it.

H. Coffee break (20min)

I. Discussion (50 min): After the hands-on practice at workshop, we will discuss possibility to apply in their own areas, and discuss the collaboration in the future.
